Brooklyn, Brooklyn take me in, are you aware the state I'm in...
My favorite city in the Northern Hemisphere (we'll get to the Southern Hemisphere later) is easily Brooklyn, New York. The energy of this place is absolutely fabulous. The combination of people that you see in Brooklyn cannot be matched. And everyone has their own style. It is absolutely incredible. You take this bustling metropolis, but then match it with a small neighborhood vibe and cute restaurants just a short train ride from all the action in Manhattan and you have an absolutely winning combination.
Last time I was in Brooklyn (pre-Covid obviously) I was in town to visit one of my best friends from high school. She is a dancer on Broadway (no starring role in Wicked yet but I'm sure it is only a matter of time), but has chosen to escape the chaos of Manhattan to share a brownstone with two of her fellow dancers in Crown Heights. The whole area is so cute. I can't tell you how incredible the coffee house we went to is, or the friendly shop owners you meet as you walk down these tree lined sidewalks. I had been there a few days, and Jillian (my friend), said that she was going to get her hair done and did I want to come along. It was such a silly question really, because Jillian knows about my obsession with hair color, and knowing of her plan to add crimson highlights to her waist length chocolate hair I had to be a witness. We went around the corner to the cutest little vintage style shop, and the owner Kelly worked on Jillian while I let Justin (another stylist) talk me into turning my platinum blond bob pink. It was the most fun I've had since Jillian and I shoplifted teal temporary color from the Sally Beauty Supply in my home town. The folks at this Brooklyn Hair Salon were so much fun to hang out with, and I absolutely loved my pink hair. I'm almost sad that I am back to my go to Platinum now that I think about it. If you are ever in the New York City area, and looking for a hair stylist Brooklyn, I highly recommend The Wayward Hairdresser. The vibe is great, they have a back yard you can hang out in while you process, and the expert hair color can't be beat. Check it out:
